Zircon Silicate VS. Cubic Zirconia

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

ZIRCON -Is a natural gemstone. It belongs to the NESOSILICATES group of minerals. Zircons resemble diamonds in luster and fire and often times colorless zircons have been mistaken by diamonds by experienced  jewelers. It is originally mined in browns and greens but can be heat treated to an array of blues and golden colors. The natural gemstone zircon is often confused with the laboratory grown and inexpensive cubic  zirconia primarily due to their similar sounding names and characteristics.  Zircon  Silicate is mined in Norway, Austria, Germany, Sri-Lanka, Combodia, Australia in addition to a handful of  other smaller countries.
