Tis the Season, Tis the Trend

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

Now that we’re all stacking bands, it’s on to the next fashion “gotta have it,” fresh from the New York and Paris Fashion Week : stacking bracelets. In India, one’s status can be determined by the number of gold bangles on the arm, but those bangles are all the same style and color. In our world we want variety. You can start with what you already have in your very own jewelry box. You don’t need, or even want to stick with one color metal or style. The updated fashion of stacking bracelets is more of the mix-and-match variety, just as we are doing with our rings. You can mix bangles with chains, different metals and textures and colors. Remember to include the new hot ‘rose’ gold to the ensemble.

Remember, diamonds go with everything. Have fun with it. Start with three bracelets, work up to six, or as many as work with your own personal style. ORO MODA  can help you coordinate new pieces into your collection. Stacking bracelets: they’re a “gotta have it” this season!

Fine Jewelry Trends

Friday, October 19th, 2012

No wonder they call it ‘ICE’.  Fine jewelry trends move at a glacial pace, a huge advantage for the consumer investing in fine jewelry. Why would we want our diamond droolery to be out of style in 6-12 months from now???

I have pieces in my jewelry box purchased and accumulated during my 7 year career with Roberto Coin in Italy, which I still love and often wear, sometimes mixing them with more recent pieces. Now that’s getting my moneys worth! This is the beauty of purchasing classic, dateless pieces and the power of mixing and stacking old with new.

September Birthstone-Sapphire

The sapphire is a product of the mineral corundum. Red corundum is called  a ruby, while all other shades of this mineral are known as sapphires.  Typically seen as a very pale blue to deep indigo due to the presence of small amounts of titanium and iron within the crystal structure.  The most valued is the deep cornflower blue. Sapphires come in an array of other natural colors and tints; colorless, grey, yellow, pale pink, orange, green, violet and brown. The different colors are caused by different kinds of impurities within the crystal.

The sapphire was said to represent the purity of the soul. Before and during the middle ages, sapphires were worn by priests as protection from impure thoughts and tempatations. Medieval Kings believed that it protected them from harm and envy.  Warriors gifted them to their young wives so they would remain faithful.  It was believed that the stones color would darken if worn by an adulterer/ess or by an unworthy person.
