It’s not just a diamond, let’s put a little thought into the origin and formation of such a precious stone. A diamond remains fascinating beyond its value based on color and clarity. It possesses quite a complex growth history. The following factors contribute to this element of fascination; the source of carbon that it formed from, and the trace elements and minerals that combined with the carbon to grow into a unique diamond. Consider the thousands of years spent in the earths mantle, the effect of the resident temperature on the nitrogen impurities to create the various hues. Finally consider the violent upheaval that rapidly transported that diamond to the earth’s surface, to lie there until discovered? Now  that’s precious!
Formation of a Diamond
May 25th, 2011Pearls
March 31st, 2011Natural pearls grow naturally in oysters living at sea without human intervention. When any irritant or a parasite enters inside an oyster or mollusk the process of natural coating begins with layer upon layer of nacre inside the oyster.Natural pearls are rarely found now-a-days and as a result cultured pearls are very real and genuine. Cultured pearls are formed by human intervention when a nucleus is implanted inside the oyster and the coating process  begins with layers upon layers of an iridescent substance called nacre. This process takes approx. 2-5 years to form a complete pearl depending upon techniques and where it is grown, sea or rivers among other conditions. Reflection and refraction from the translucent layers truly determines the unique luster quality of pearls. The display of iridescence in pearls is the  result of overlapping the successive layers.
All the pearls found and sold in the market today are cultured pearls, whether fresh water or seawater pearls. Fresh water pearls are generally grown in ponds, lakes or rivers whereas seawater pearls are grown in the sea  Whether fresh water or sea water pearls, quality and price depends upon the size, shape, lustre, color and surface.
Spring Trends 2011
March 9th, 2011Rose gold has been increasing in popularity over the past few years. It works well with almost all the spring color clothes, especially with purples, pinks, shades of browns and neutrals, not to mention soft greys which perhaps falls into the neutral tones for Spring category.
Other fine jewelry trends to keep an eye on are pearls, yellow gold and saturated gemstones, bold statement necklaces, medallion pendants and pieces composed of eco-friendly materials like wood, bone or stone. Another popular look is that of layering longer necklaces with shorter ones to give that consistent flow.
The bottom line is to remain original by making whatever you wear your own! HAPPY SPRING!
